Reverse BMI Calculator

Work backwards from a target BMI to the body weight you would need at your height.

What is a reverse BMI calculator?

A normal BMI calculator takes your weight and height and gives you a BMI number. A reverse BMI calculator does the opposite: you choose a target BMI and your height, and it tells you the body weight that matches. It is a quick way to turn a BMI goal into a concrete weight target you can actually track on the scales.

How it works

BMI is defined as weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. Rearranging that formula gives weight = BMI × height². Enter your height and a target BMI — for example 22, which sits in the middle of the healthy range — and the calculator returns the matching weight in both kilograms and pounds.

Choosing a sensible target

The healthy BMI range for adults is 18.5 to 24.9. Aiming for a BMI around 21–23 is a reasonable goal for most people. Remember that BMI does not account for muscle, so athletes and very active people may be perfectly healthy at a higher figure. Use the result as a guide and combine it with measures like body fat percentage.

Frequently asked questions

What target BMI should I aim for?

Anywhere in the 18.5–24.9 range is considered healthy. A mid-range target of about 22 is a common, balanced choice.

Is reaching a target BMI always healthy?

Not necessarily. Crash dieting to hit a number is unhealthy. Aim for gradual change and focus on overall wellbeing rather than the scales alone.
